Things to see and things to do!
For such a small town, Llangollen has lots of things to keep the visitor busy!

For the lover of the outdoors, there is hill walking, mountain biking, canoeing, horse riding, golf and climbing. And for those interested in the more gentle life there is the steam train, the horse drawn canal boat, the pretty riverside walks or a drink by the river.

In addition, you have the beautiful valley of Llangollen with its treasures, waiting to be explored.

Why not pay a visit to one of the oldest houses in Llangollen, Plas Newydd, once the home to the famous Ladies of Llangollen, with royal visitors and famous friends, these two ladies led a very unusual life! The gardens alone are worth a visit.

While gazing at the Georgian architecture of Plas Newydd, you will look up to see the ruins of a castle perched high on a hill overlooking the town. This is Castell Dinas Bran. It is a brisk walk up to the castle, but well worth it, as in one direction are the very flat Cheshire plains and in the other the mountains of Snowdonia. In between these two magnificent views is the town of Llangollen.

Coming back into the town you can take a walk though the bustling streets, visit the many gift shops, have a bite to eat in the many cafes and restaurants or take a stroll along the river Dee.

How about a trip into the future with the Dr Who exhibition or into the past at Valle Crucis Abbey. You can climb high into the mountains, or take a trip underground at the Slate Museum, not far from Llangollen.

And finally, you can take a trip around the world whilst never leaving Wales! How? The International Musical Eisteddfod has been held in Llangollen for over 50 years. With competitors from more than 30 countries all over the world, the festival is a dazzle of colour, music and dance not to be missed! Take a look at the official site for what is on offer this year.

To find out more about these or any of the huge range of activities on offer in Llangollen, pop into the Llangollen Tourist Centre.
