The Wye Valley is renowned around the world
as being an area of outstanding natural beauty.
A visit to the Abbey is a must. Founded by Cistercian Monks
in the 12th Century and destroyed by Henry VIII, in the 1540's,
written about by Wordsworth and painted by Turner. A very spiritual
experience
..
The area is renowned for its beautiful walks of which there
are many to suit all levels. The walk to Devils Pulpit to see the
stunning views from the elevated position next to Offa's Dyke is
a favourite.
HAPPA - the local Horse Sanctuary, a must for all horse
lovers who will delight in viewing the excellent work which this
small charity provides, caring for rescued horses.
For our braver visitor with an adventurous spirit we challenge
them to walk through the woods at night to visit the haunted
Chapel, on the side of hill above the Abbey!
Also, well worth a visit is the old Railway Station and
shop/museum which evokes the steam era when the railway ran from
Chepstow to Symmons Yat, which closed in the 1960's.
Visit the old Foundry ruins where brass was first forged
in the Valley.
For the keen fisherman, Fairoak Fisheries is just a mile
away.
There is a plethora of Golf Courses within a very short
distance which include the Welsh Open Course at St Pierre.
Chepstow Race Course is only three miles away and makes
an excellent day out.
The local Sunday Market at the race course is an interesting
place where you may just find that bargain!
For Castle enthusiasts plan a long stay, there are many
castles in the area, all of which are worth a visit.
Or, visit the ancient Forest of Dean, stunning forest
landscape where Nelson choose the oak timber for his fleet.
For the keen Shoppers, Bath, Cheltenham, Bristol and Cardiff
are within easy reach.
Other activities within easy driving distance include canoeing,
horse-riding, Quad and mountain biking.
