Eat and Drink
At Highfield House, you can choose to have an evening meal in the
elegant candlelit dining room or walk the short distance to the
village of Tintern.
Dinner
Highfield House is noted for its eclectic Mediterranean cuisine,
prepared using local produce and freshly cut herbs from the kitchen
garden. The menu varies from day to day depending on seasonal produce.
Everything is cooked using only the best ingredients. Your candlelit
four-course dinner is served in the dining room and on summer evenings,
on the terrace. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for on request.
Please book dinner when making your room reservation.
Alternatively, you can take the short walk along the forest path
to the village of Tintern where you can enjoy a selection of Pubs
and Restaurants.
Anchor Inn
Opposite the Abbey, believed to be the oldest in the village. Usual
pub grub at moderate prices. Interesting old Cider press in main
bar. Carvery Sunday lunch.
Moon & Sixpence
On main road in village heading north to Monmouth, quaint village
pub with lots of little nooks and crannies, overlooking river. Normal
pub fare at reasonable prices.
Royal George Hotel
More upmarket. Set three course meal approximately £25.00. They
also serve snacks in the bar which are more reasonable priced. They
serve coffee and drinks to non-residents in the lounge or the garden.
Rose & Crown
In the village, on main road, heading north, just past Royal George.
A typical village pub which most locals frequent. The food is reasonable
and inexpensive and there is a pool table.
Fountain Inn
On the Raglan road heading North to Trench. A busy country pub serving
a variety of good pub food of the medium price range.
A short drive away in Chepstow there are a selection of pubs and
ethnic restaurants.
Breakfast
Served in the dining room between 7.30am - 9.00am. There are a selection
of cereals and muesli, fresh fruits and yoghurts. This will be followed
by a traditional English breakfast of home-laid free range eggs
(from our cow!), bacon, sausage, tomatoes, baked beans and mushrooms
with toast and a selection of local jams, marmalades and honey produced
by local bees to follow.
There is a plentiful supply of assorted teas and freshly ground
coffee.
